Smile of the Day

This is absolutely brilliant. Absolutely. Brilliant.
Vincente (hat tip) from Criticker Movie Blog put it better than I would hope to do myself:
“Although missing the classic score and sound effects, such as Darth Vader’s breathing or the lightsaber’s hum, Star Wars is strangely compelling as a silent film. With dramatically costumed actors scurrying about futuristic sets, one could almost see the film as a precursor to Metropolis.”
Nice play of the Metropolis card, I must say. For one more check out Vincente’s post.

Smile of the Day

Any guesses on where this takes place before seeing the end? Reasons? (And don’t answer if you already know, that’s so lame!)
Consider what circumstances would lead to such an obscene display of über-cuteness.
Try not to swoon too ultra-hard.

Shooting the rainbows

I keep a running list of plants, animals, & locations around the world I one day want to shoot. It’s a practice I really enjoy for a few reasons – there’s no way I can remember everything I see that I eventually want to shoot, but what I feel is even more important is that it keeps me motivated. I fully intend to follow through with this list over the course of my life, & looking through it every now & then reminds me of all the beautiful places & …

How do you say that?

I’ve just stumbled upon (no affiliation to the highly addictive site) what appears to be a wonderfully useful site for international travelers: Forvo.com. Despite some cursory searching, I don’t know what forvo means, though I can tell you it’s based out of San Sebastián, Spain.
Essentially, it’s a foreign language pronunciation guide (the largest in the world according to their about page) that relies on users to submit audio files of themselves saying words in various languages. When you sign up it even requires you to mark on a (Google) map …

More than meets the visible light spectrum

So I was playing around & experimenting just now with an 8-minute star trail shot I took the other night (playing around/experimenting = something didn’t work the way I wanted, in this case, it was so dark I couldn’t find anything on which to focus, & the entire scene is horrendously blurry), & while adding some color overlays I needed to know what color was opposite blue (turns out it’s yellow). Naturally, I sauntered on over to Google’s Image Search (which suddenly has a totally new functionality) & looked for …

Homemade Paper-Part 2

Success! Ok, so I’m not quite ready to open a handmade stationary shop, but I still made paper dammit! And it actually looks pretty darn good. I’ve got three sheets finished, now I want to start looking into playing with using other fibers. I’ve been told banana fibers are gaining a good deal of popularity in India, but the extraction process is less than pleasant. I think I’ll look into other possibilities first.

Homemade Paper-Part 1

That’s today’s project. I’ve never tried it before, but I’ve completed the first step – constructing a paper-making screen – so I’d be remiss if I didn’t continue on to the actual making of paper, the process for which I found over at the eternally fun to browse wikiHow.com. I want to play around with fun & interesting ways of mounting photos using handmade paper; I think it could turn out nicely! Aside from that though, the options seem practically limitless: greeting cards, thank-you cards, get-well cards, thinking of you …

Moving pictures

I’ve never attempt time-lapse photography, but I want to play around with it someday. This just gives me all the more reason. Amazing that this was done with a still camera!

Smile of the Day

Remember The Princess Bride? I do. In fact when my best buddy of my childhood & I had sleepovers we’d fall asleep reciting the movie word-for-word. Ever wonder what Fred Savage was thinking?
