Shooting the rainbows

I keep a running list of plants, animals, & locations around the world I one day want to shoot. It’s a practice I really enjoy for a few reasons – there’s no way I can remember everything I see that I eventually want to shoot, but what I feel is even more important is that it keeps me motivated. I fully intend to follow through with this list over the course of my life, & looking through it every now & then reminds me of all the beautiful places & …

Moving pictures

I’ve never attempt time-lapse photography, but I want to play around with it someday. This just gives me all the more reason. Amazing that this was done with a still camera!

New upcoming project

I took a drive down to Colorado Springs yesterday for my bi-decade dental visit, & during the hour-&-a-half  it took to get there I began coming up with a photo project. I don’t yet want to go into any details because I’m still trying to find out if anyone’s done it or something similar already, but it’s got me wondering for sure.
And anxious! It would be a huuuuuuuge project, stupidly complex, requiring many days of shooting (not necessarily back-to-back), precise GPS navigating, potentially ridiculous amounts of weather/sun position coordination, & …

How you shoot it

So I’m not yet what one might call “up-to-date.” I’m gettin’ there.
On 18 February Art Wolfe had a great post by guest blogger Canadian photographer & writer Younes Bounhar called FINDING YOUR STYLE. In it, Bounhar offers five tips to help any photographer – professional, hobbyist or otherwise – better define their own personal style:

Study the work of other artists
Get off the beaten path
Try something different
Break the rules
Take photography workshops

Each tip includes a paragraph or two with some great thoughts on how to solidify your personality into each of your photos. …

CreativeTechs Training Goodness

For anyone out there even remotely interested in photography, Photoshop, and/or web design, there’s this ultra-hip Seattle-based organization called CreativeTechs. Their primary focus is offering Mac support for small-to-mid sized companies, but that’s not why I’m posting about them today (although I have every reason to believe they excel at such things).
I bring them up here to raise awareness of their absolutely STELLAR live – & free – online training webinars. I’ve been attending since their June 2009 4-week photography class hosted by John Greengo – Art Wolfe’s photography assistant …

What’s it take?

It’s worth mentioning something I’ve heard a great deal about & truthfully have long known, at least logically: photography’s tough. Bear in mind, when I refer to photography here I’m referring to all that the term encompasses: organizing, sorting, tagging, captioning, copyrighting, retouching, processing, to say nothing of actually taking the photo…

Photo of the Day

A wonderfully soft, soothing photo of the classic Chinese game Go. Seeing this makes me want to brew some tea & sit on the floor for a quiet afternoon with a close friend or two.
Like today’s photo? Tell the photographer! That’s one thing that always keeps us going!

Extra credit?

How does one get lucky enough to receive a photo credit on a Reuters story that doesn’t seem to use one’s photo…?
